This Photo of a Woman Applying Lipstick Is So Amazingly Badass

It doesn't get much more empowering than this.

In today's most-kickass-women-of-the-world news, we bring you this photograph:

The picture, which was taken by news agency Reuters, has been making the Internet rounds today. It captures a female Macedonian protester at the frontline of a police blockade using a riot shield as a mirror to reapply her lipstick. According to NDTV, the protester kissed the shield immediately after.

The image is powerful and symbolic, showing not only that women have a place in political protests, but that they can express themselves with class and strength. It can be viewed as a peaceful woman applying her own kind of warpaint, in stark contrast to the shielded, armed police force she is standing up against.

The photo was taken yesterday during a protest in Skopje, Macedonia, where, according to Yahoo! News U.K., civilians were calling for the resignation of prime minister Nikola Gruevski and his cabinet for alleged conspiracies—including the covering up of a 22-year-old man's killing by police during a post-election celebration in 2011.

As we have seen no shortage of unrest and protests in recent years—throughout the world and on our own soil—the image serves as a reminder of just how powerful and empowering peaceful protests can be.

Kudos (and kisses) to you, unidentified lipstick lady.
