A Transgender Woman Has Been Cast for the New Season of Big Brother

Her name is Audrey Middleton.

Big Brother has just cast Audrey Middleton as its first U.S. transgender contestant.

According to her official Big Brother bio, Audrey is a 25-year-old digital media consultant from a small town in Georgia. She’s “very tight” with her parents and calls them her best friends. Audrey is also an avid swimmer and loves to get dressed up and “look fabulous head-to-toe.”

And apparently she’s in it to win it, saying, “I will not float. I will make bold moves and I will get blood on my hands. Heads will roll!" She also compares herself to Dexter Morgan—eek!

But despite the hype surrounding her casting, there’s no mention of her past as a man on her bio.

"Audrey Middleton is a Big Brother super fan who applied online, like many other hopeful houseguests, and was open about her transition in the application process," CBS said in a statement. "It is customary for Big Brother houseguests to share personal news inside the house, and Audrey plans to discuss her story with the houseguests in her own words during the premiere episode on Wednesday, June 24."

According to TMZ.com, Audrey was born “Adam” and her family had a hard time when she transitioned to a woman a few years ago. However, they’re now fully supportive. Audrey reportedly plans to use the show as a showcase for transgender issues.

While Audrey will be the first transgender houseguest for the American version of Big Brother, she’s not the first for the series as a whole. Transgender contestant Nadia Almada won the fifth season of the U.K. version of the show. The twelfth season of Celebrity Big Brother in the U.K. also featured transgender British media personality Lauren Harries.

The season 17 premiere of Big Brother airs on Wednesday, June 24, on CBS at 8 p.m. ET and Thursday, June 25 at 8 p.m. ET.
