Stop Hogging the Spotlight and Help Get Someone Else Strong

It's time to pay it forward.

Women's Health kicked off its #GetSomeoneLifting social media campaign today, and you're nominated to be a part of it! The idea behind #GetSomeoneLifting is pretty simple: Offer to lift with someone who normally avoids dumbbells like they're the plague...then actually do it!

It doesn't have to be an intense CrossFit-esque workout. Just introduce someone—a friend, a coworker, your niece, anyone—to the weight room so they won't be quite so intimidated by it anymore.

After that first partner workout, schedule a second one together. And then a third, and so on.

Share your progress on social media by using the hashtag #GetSomeoneLIfting. We'll be on the lookout for your stories and will feature some on of our favorites on social media—and possibly even on WomensHealthMag.com.

This effort is the brainchild of Bill Strickland, editor-in-chief of our brother publication Bicycling, who wants to get more people riding bikes. He even persuaded our Editor-in-Chief, Amy Keller Laird, to saddle up back in May—and Amy hadn't set foot on a pedal since she owned a banana seat.

Time to motivate! For inspiration, check out the five basic strength-training moves that Holly Perkins, a certified strength and conditioning specialist, founder of Women’s Strength Nation, and author of Lift to Get Lean, recommends you start with—and #GetSomeoneLifting ASAP!
