The 9 Most Shocking Bachelor and Bachelorette Finales Ever

Will it be 10 after tonight?

Sure, each season of The Bachelor or Bachelorette is full of memorable and jaw-dropping moments—but the real drama happens during the finale or at the live "After the Finale Rose" specials. Whether the new couple is engaged, on the brink of splitting up, or reeling from what they just saw unfold on the finale, these last few hours of each season usually provide the most entertainment value.

To get you pumped up for tonight’s finale, let’s take a look back at some of the most surprising endings:

9. When Bachelor Brad Womack Didn’t Choose Anyone (The Bachelor, Season 11)
Bachelor fans aren’t naïve; we know that not every season will end in an engagement, but we’re at least hoping for a love story. So when Brad Womack sent both DeAnna Pappas and Jenni Croft home, it was an ending we definitely didn’t see coming.

8. When Bachelor Jake Pavelka Proposed to Vienna Girardi Over Tenley Molzahn (The Bachelor, Season 14)
Tenley was the sweet girl-next-door type who performed an interpretive dance to woo Jake. Vienna was…someone Jake couldn't stop salivating over. It was clear they had sexual chemistry, but there didn’t seem to be much more to their relationship. Though it was shocking that Jake chose Vienna over Tenley, it was no surprise the pair went through a tumultuous split shortly after the finale.

7. When Bachelorette Ali Fedotowsky Sent Runner-Up Chris Lambton Home Early (The Bachelorette, Season 6)
Ali was so certain that contestant Roberto Martinez was the one, she sent Chris packing before they unlocked the fantasy suite. We weren’t shocked she chose Roberto; the real surprise was that she was so confident in her decision. Usually the Bachelors and Bachelorettes keep us guessing until the last minute.

6. When Bachelor Ben Flajnik and Final Contestant Courtney Robertson Admitted They'd Called Off Their Engagement (The Bachelor, Season 16)
This was an "After the Final Rose" special to remember. First, Chris Harrison confronted Ben about photos of him kissing other women in the tabloids. Then, Courtney took the stage to reveal that Ben had dumped her (on Valentine’s Day!) after watching the way she'd treated the other women on the show. Then, Ben recommitted to her and put the Neil Lane diamond back on her hand. It was a roller coaster you had to see to believe. (Unsurprisingly, they called it quits again before walking down the aisle.)

5. When Runner-Up Arie Luyendyk Jr. Admitted He'd Pursued Bachelorette Emily Maynard After the Show (The Bachelorette, Season 8)
At the "After the Final Rose" special, Arie revealed that, after the cameras had stopped rolling, he'd flown to see Emily in North Carolina because he “couldn’t deal.” Once he got there, though, he didn’t want to betray Emily's then-fiancé, Jef Holm, so he called her and left her his journal. (Unfortunately for Arie, Emily didn't return his feelings.) The most shocking part? That ABC failed to catch all of this on film.

4. When Chris Harrison Announced There Would be Two Bachelorettes (The Bachelor, Season 19)
Bachelor nation was thrilled when Chris Soules proposed to Whitney Bischoff during the finale. To be honest, we kind of saw it coming. The big surprise of the night came during the "After the Final Rose" special, when Chris Harrison announced there would be two Bachelorettes: Kaitlyn Bristowe and Britt Nilsson. Fans of both former contestants were enraged and confused.

3. When We Learned Nikki Ferrell Was Still with Juan Pablo (The Bachelor, Season 18)
During the finale, we watched Bachelor Juan Pablo tell final contestant Nikki Ferrell that he liked her a lot. Ouch. When she was still with him at the "After the Final Rose" special and he still hadn’t said, “I love you,” we were shocked.

2. When Runner-Up Nick Viall Publicly Revealed Fantasy-Suite Secrets (The Bachelorette, Season 10)
Hell hath no fury like a Bachelorette contestant burned! At the "After the Final Rose" special, Chris Harrison put Andi Dorfman in the hot seat when he brought out the second-to-last man standing, Nick Viall. A broken-hearted Nick said to Andi, “If you weren’t in love with me, I’m not sure why you made love with me.” Burn. What happens in the fantasy suite usually stays there—but not this time!

1. When Jason Mesnick Realized He'd Chosen the Wrong Woman (The Bachelor, Season 13)
Jason unceremoniously dumped then-fiancé Melissa Rycroft during the "After the Final Rose" special. She was escorted off the stage after repeating, “You don’t want to fight for Melissa.” Runner-up Molly Malaney was then brought on stage, and Jason admitted he couldn’t stop thinking about her. The two are now married with a 2-year-old daughter.
